Bluehost.com has very reliable and affordable plans and a pretty good version of Cpanel. Tech support is fair and they try hard to please.
While not in the same league as Hostgator in terms of sheer features and helpful tech support, they are a viable option for a good host that's a bit cheaper than Hostgator. With plans starting at $6.95 a month and with most of the key features set on "unlimited" (beware of that word in hosting though) they are certainly a good value.
In the "cons" category I would have to say that they lack of higher level plans limit your choices of upgrading to a better plan. When I was faced with that problem I discovered they had an unpublicized plan for about $20 a month that offered better features. Mainly a longer "timeout" on their servers which helps if you are running processor intensive scripts. However, that's often not enough for a demanding website and if success is one of your website's problems, Bluehost won't be able to accommodate it any longer.
But for brochure type websites and even medium to large shopping carts they are indeed a good and reliable choice.
